A Short Code is the term used when people text a Keyword to a specific set of numbers, not a phone number. An example would be ” Text NORTH to 69696″. 69696 is the Short Code number for TextGeek.com. You will receive 1 Short Code for your account. This makes it easier for people to remember how to join your list. Short Codes are also sent out at a much faster rate than Long Codes. Any emergency or extremely time sensitive information should be sent out through your Short Code. Each Keyword can only be used per Short Code so join quickly before your Keyword is taken by someone else.

While Short Codes have the advantage in speed and ease of use, Long Codes have their benefits as well. Long Codes is the term used when your Group has to send in a Keyword to a phone number, like 555-1212, instead of a 5 or 6 digit code. One of the major benefits of Long Codes is since you own the phone number you can use any Keyword you want. A popular word like Pizza has already been taken on the Short Code, but you can use any keyword on your own Long Code number. With Long Codes you can also build different Subscriber Lists by having the different groups send in different Keywords to subscribe. An example of this would be: have your customers text in the Keyword VIP to join your VIP list and have your employees text in the Keyword WORK to join your employee list. You will then be able to send messages only to the Group you want to receive the messages. Members will also be able to subscribe to as many different lists as you want.
